How Indiana University Health is Reducing Hidden Healthcare Costs to Strengthen Its Workforce and Community

May 20, 2025, 2:00 PM ET

Hidden healthcare cost drivers specifically from tobacco use continues to weigh heavily on Indiana, which sees significantly higher usage rates than the national average. This translates to over $3 billion in annual healthcare costs for Indiana businesses, much of it tied to chronic disease. Indiana University Health (IU Health), the state’s largest nonprofit healthcare system, is taking bold steps to reverse this trend—starting with its own workforce.

IU Health will reveal how it uncovered gaps in employee outreach and reimagined its strategy to more effectively engage and support those struggling with tobacco use. These efforts are not only strengthening IU Health’s internal culture of health but are also creating a broader impact on patients and the community, too.

Attendees will learn:

  1. How IU Health uncovered expensive drivers of hidden healthcare costs
  2. How IU Health redesigned its outreach strategy to better engage employees in wellbeing programs focused on tobacco cessation
  3. Proven strategies for engaging healthcare workers specifically and the community broadly in quitting tobacco

Register today to gain actionable strategies you can apply to change tobacco culture within your own organization.
