Why should I select the EX Program?
The EX Program is a fully mobile solution that personalizes the participant experience, generating higher engagement than traditional phone-based tobacco cessation programs.
With the EX Program, tobacco users connect with experts and peers however they want – whenever they want – and for as long as they need through their entire quitting journey. Program features include 1:1 coaching through live chat with experts; peer support in a thriving social community; tailored email and text messages; a customized quit plan; nicotine replacement therapy; and more.
Developed by Truth Initiative and Mayo Clinic, the EX Program applies evidence-based approaches and best practices in digital interventions to achieve positive health outcomes. Research shows that participation in the EX Program quadruples a smoker’s chance of quitting.
Our company already offers a general wellness program to our employees. Isn’t this enough?
For most tobacco users, quitting is daunting. When they have a question, or a crisis, they need more than a lifestyle coach. They need real-time access to a specialist who understands how tobacco addiction affects each person’s life differently and how best to overcome it.
General wellness programs cannot offer the expertise and sophisticated digital features needed to engage, inspire and guide tobacco users through their quitting journey. By offering the EX Program, you give employees the specialized support they need for the behavioral, social and physical aspects of tobacco addiction, combined in a customized quitting program to help them be successful.
What is my “total eligible population”?
Your total eligible population is the total number of employees in your organization and their adult dependents, if you choose to include them. Pricing is based on the total number of employees in your company, not just the number of smokers.
Why should I include adult dependents?
With another tobacco user in the household, it will be much harder for your employee to quit. Many couples that use tobacco prefer to quit together, and will be more motivated if they both are working towards a common goal. If adult dependents are covered under your medical plan, helping them to quit can lower those health care costs too.
What do I need to sign up for the EX Program?
Signing up is easy. Your first step is to determine who will be eligible for the EX Program (i.e., employees only or employees and adult dependents) and an approximate count of that total eligible population. Once you select the appropriate Subscription Type (monthly or yearly), you’ll need to have the following information available: (1) Contact information for the Account Contact and Billing Contact; (2) A valid Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover card. You will receive confirmation of your subscription completion with detailed instructions about how to launch the EX Program.
How long does it take to launch the program?
Immediately after you subscribe, you can access instructions and materials to promote the EX Program. You can begin promoting the program within 5 business days. During that time, we will be customizing BecomeAnEX.org so that your employees will see your company name when they register.
How do I promote the EX Program to my employees?
Our Client Success team provides you with a suite of promotional materials, accessible through your Welcome Email. You can use any or all of them to promote the EX Program to your employees and encourage them to sign up at www.BecomeAnEX.org. New promotional materials will be available throughout the year.
How do my employees sign up?
Your employees will go to www.BecomeAnEX.org, select your company’s name from the Employer/Sponsor menu, and answer a few questions about their tobacco use and communication preferences. That’s it!
What type of reports will I receive?
Each calendar quarter, the EX Program will deliver aggregate reporting on (1) enrollment numbers, (2) demographics of your users, (3) program engagement, (4) participation in live chat with an EX Coach, and (4) delivery of nicotine patch, gum and lozenge. We can also deliver individual-level reporting for organizations that offer incentives or premium differentials.
How do I access my reports?
Our Client Success team will contact you within 2 weeks of your subscription order to provide information about how to access your reports. You will receive a notification from us by email every time new reports are available.
Will the EX Program support our premium differential or incentive? Is it considered a “reasonable alternative” as defined by the Affordable Care Act?
Yes and yes. The EX Program includes quarterly reporting on enrollment and program completion to align with your premium differential or incentive. It meets all requirements for programs designed to “promote health and prevent disease.”
What qualifications do EX Program coaches have?
Our coaches are the best in the business! EX Program coaches have completed Mayo Clinic’s Nicotine Dependence Center Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Program, or have received equivalent training and have at least five years’ experience providing tobacco cessation coaching.
Not all of our employees have a company email address. Will the EX Program still work?
Yes. Participants can use any email address to enroll in the EX Program.
Does the EX Program require a special app?
No, the EX Program works within the browser on any device.
