Michael Amato, Ph.D., methodologist at the EX Program, a digital tobacco cessation program developed by Truth Initiative in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, will be presenting at the 3rd Annual UConn Center for mHealth and Social Media Conference on May 16, 2019, in Storrs, Connecticut.
During his presentation, “Using Social Network Analysis and Text Analytics to Understand Social Support in an Online Cessation Community,” Dr. Amato will discuss research methods the EX team has pioneered to understand how participation in an online community relates to quitting.
He will present findings on:
- How the exposure of positive or negative sentiment towards nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) affects the likelihood of using NRT during a quit attempt
- How engagement in an online social network is predictive of tobacco abstinence
- An approach leveraging user-generated content to observe cessation outcomes.
The 3rd Annual Conference of the UConn Center for mHealth and Social Media features speakers who are national experts in social media research on topics including health behavior interventions, tobacco cessation, public health campaigns, online patient communities and more.
